Emogene Davis

Emogene Davis, 80, of Vendor died Monday, Oct. 31 (2005) at her home.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at Big Creek Assembly of God Church with Rev. Rex Middleton officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Holt Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery with grandsons and family members serving as pallbearers.

The daughter of Frank and Stella Graham Martin was born June 16, 1925, at Kay in Searcy County. She was married to Warden Davis for over 50 years, living in California in the 40s and in Kansas City, Mo. in the 50s. She lived most of her life in Vendor.

Emogene did factory work for many years to help support her family. She was also a homemaker, gardener and farmer. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting and working in her flowers. She was a member of Big Creek Assembly of God Church for than 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Berniece Earwood and one infant sister.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Wardena and Carl Smith and Glenda and Thomas Niswonger, all of Vendor; four grandsons, Roger Smith of Vendor, Kevin Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Michael Smith of Nashville, Tenn. and Craig Niswonger of Conway; one granddaughter, Laura Bowles of Clinton; six great-grandchildren, Charm, Stacie and Nickie Smith and Meleah Walker and Olivia Bowles; one great-great-grandson, Payton Smith; three brothers, Kenneth Martin of Alton, Mo., Dalph Martin and John Martin of Hasty; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

MOTHER

Born in Searcy
on her Moms birthday,
She moved to Newton County
at the age of eight.

Times were bad and
Hard work was plenty,
They grew what they could
And squeezed every penny.

She married Warden Davis
and moved West on a train,
Returned with a baby, in-laws, niece
And husband driving a Model A.

They bought a farm, built a house,
And thought they’d settle in,
Then in 51 they had
To move away again.

Hard work and dedication
Were her way of life,
She did what she could
To be a good mother and wife.

She was proud of the grandkids
And babysat almost all,
They loved building forts, baking cookies
and picking up walnuts in the fall.

With strong mind and strong will
She lived every day,
She enjoyed being outside
And watching the calves play.

We cherish every memory
And are thankful for each one,
Moms with God and Daddy,
And eternitys just begun!
